FSIS plant changes
FSIS plant changes (also called MPI establishment changes or meat-plant directory updates) are adds, removals, and field updates in the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service Meat, Poultry and Egg Product Inspection directory — the public list of FSIS-inspected plants.
Plant Delta Feed snapshots that public API weekly and delivers a verified before/after diff so research teams do not re-check thousands of rows by hand. This page defines what counts as a change. For cadence and delivery, see the weekly directory diff guide.
What counts as an FSIS plant change?
Material directory events typically include:
- Additions — new establishments appear in the official MPI directory.
- Removals — establishments leave the directory (or are no longer listed). Removals are not automatically plant closures — see limitations.
- Field updates — address, size class, activities, species, or other mapped fields change between weekly snapshots.
We only report changes we can show with provenance: immutable weekly snapshots, SHA256 hashes, and before/after field values. This is not purchase intent, credit data, or a purchased lead list.
Who tracks these updates?
Packaging, sanitation, processing equipment, refrigeration, labeling, and food-safety software vendors often research which FSIS-inspected plants are new or changing. Analysts may want a weekly CSV of official directory deltas instead of ad-hoc lookups on the public FSIS site. Vendor workflow notes: FSIS plant directory for vendors.
How the feed reports them
- Fetch the official FSIS MPI establishment feed on a weekly schedule.
- Normalize and compare against the prior successful snapshot.
- Surface only material adds, removals, and field updates with evidence.
- Deliver CSV + email when your plan is active (waitlist onboarding for now).
